"The extent of the devastation is really hard to imagine… whole lives have been destroyed, villages and communities". Queen Rania, a member of the UNICEF Global Leadership Initiative for Children, warned that the upcoming winter will hinder the relief and aid distribution effort.

King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Share Ramadan Day with Orphans

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Amman) Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania on Monday visited children at Al Hussein Social Institution in Al Ashrafieh, which provides care for orphaned children.

The King and Queen spent part of the afternoon with the institution's 132 resident children to check on their conditions as part of the King's efforts to keep in touch with members of the Jordanian community, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

Prior to the visit, King Abdullah made sure that the institution had received all its requirements.

Queen Rania Provides Some Light Relief to Operation Smile Patients

Operation Smile, a nonprofit medical services organization, is marking its 25th anniversary by carrying out 5,000 operations through 40 simultaneous medical missions in 25 countries this month.

Queen Rania Chairs NCFA Board Meeting and National Plan of Action for Children is Adopted

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Amman) The National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA) adopted the National Plan of Action for Children (NPA) which the council has been working on in coordination with the Ministries of Planning, Social Development and UNICEF.

The plan which has six main components covers a period of ten years (2004-2014) and is based on the UN’s “World Fit for Children” document and the Arab Plan of Action for Children.

Queen Rania Spends Afternoon Entertaining Hundreds of Jordanian Children

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department – Amman) Innocent laughter and merriment filled the hallways of the Children’s Museum, as Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah spent the afternoon entertaining almost 700 underprivileged children from all of Jordan.

Queen Rania, who is the Chairperson of the museum’s Board of Trustees, brought together 120 orphans and 550 children from less fortunate areas of Jordan, for an eventful storybook reading and a tour of the museum.

Queen Rania Follows Up on Family Protection Progress

(Jordan Times, Linda Hindi - Amman) Jordan, which has been making progress in working to minimise violence against women, is hosting the first regional training course to strengthen the institutional capability of Arab police officers that deal with domestic violence cases.  

Her Majesty Queen Rania’s participation in the session sent a clear message that addressing the issue remains a top priority for Jordan.
