Community empowerment

(Jordan Times - Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania on Wednesday visited an open-air exhibition of photographs in Jabal Qalaa taken by school and university students as part of a competition entitled “Amman in a Picture”.

On display at the outdoor exhibition, organised by the Greater Amman Municipality in cooperation with the private sector, were a total of 40 photographs taken by young participants aged between 16 and 23 years, depicting various locations across the capital.

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department – Germany) Beyond the red carpet glittering with star power and into the dazzling hall of the 59th Annual Bambi Awards, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah took center stage to accept the distinguished humanitarian award for her tireless work in advocating child welfare and promoting women’s issues.
 
True to her role as an advocate for children, the Queen highlighted the humanitarian crisis for children in Palestine, Iraq and beyond and encouraged collective action to better their lives, as she accepted the award. 
 

(Jordan Times - Wadi Araba) Her Majesty Queen Rania visited two Wadi Araba villages where she checked on citizens’ conditions and projects implemented in the area with the support of the Jordan River Foundation (JRF).  
 
Considered one of the country’s poverty pockets, Wadi Araba has limited natural resources and economic opportunities.
 
The JRF offers technical services to the area through the Rural Community Cluster Development Programme.
 

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department – New York) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah accepted the distinguished UNA-USA (United Nations Association) Global Humanitarian Action Award in New York,  where she promised “to keep doing all I can to be worthy of the honor you have bestowed on me tonight.”

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department – Amman)  the United Nations Foundation Board Members marked the first day of a three day visit to discover Jordan and explore opportunities in the Kingdom. Queen Rania, a UNF board member since 2006, joined the board for a dynamic and engaging conversation with 25 Jordanian Youth.
 
“The UN Foundation is excited to be in Jordan at the invitation of our Board Member, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, so we can learn more about this country and the UN's important role here,” said UNF founder Ted Turner.
 

(Jordan Times - Amman) A total of 190 young people from Amman volunteered to take part in a project aimed at fostering youth participation in community work.
 
Entitled “For Empowered Generations”, the project, carried out with the support of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), seeks to develop youth potential and awareness, in addition to increasing their contributions to community service.
 

(Jordan Times - Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania stressed the need to upgrade medical services for citizens in the southern districts of Shobak and Petra.

During a surprise visit to the areas’ medical and tourism facilities, the Queen met with patients at the Queen Rania Hospital in the town of Wadi Petra, Petra.

While touring the hospital’s different wards, including the surgical, pediatric and outpatient clinics, the Queen spoke to several patients about the services offered at the institution and their general living conditions.

(Jordan Times - Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania launched a report by the National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA), which included recommendations on ways to prevent domestic violence and improve health conditions in the country.
 
The report, developed in response to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) call at the launch of the Global Health and Violence Report in 2002, focuses on the international framework for combating violence and its correlation with health.
 

(Office of Her Majesty—Amman) In order for a country to advance at its fullest potential, its human resources must be developed and nurtured. Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah has often noted that can only be the case when the entire population, including women, are encouraged to join the workforce.

On that note, Her Majesty met 32 women judges in Amman, just days after celebrating International Women's Day, to encourage their contribution to the field of law, and to promote women's participation in the workforce.
