"Good afternoon everyone. It’s a pleasure to be with you all in such a wonderful setting; and thank you, Klara, for your generous introduction. A biography I read about you recently began: A literary superstar. Arguably Poland’s most famous writer after Joseph Conrad. I’m sure those of us who’ve enjoyed your writing over the years would agree.

When I was first imagining what I would like to say this morning, I had the idea it would be great to start by quoting a Chinese philosopher. I knew it might seem a bit clichéd, but the temptation was hard to resist, when thinking about a culture whose ancient wisdom is so profound.
The biggest challenge was where to begin. So many brilliant scholars to choose from! At last, I settled on a book of quotations by Lau Thawz. And here is the first thing I read:
“He who speaks more is sooner exhausted.”

"You know, I couldn’t help but notice when I was preparing for this conference:
If you Google “Jordan,” you get almost 184 million hits.
If you Google “United Kingdom,” you get 358 million hits.
If you Google “United States,” you get 795 million hits.
But if you Google “Google,” you get 1.9 billion hits.
Just in case any of us were wondering who really rules the world…!

"Thank you, Julian, for your kind words, and for all your hard work at the helm of GAVI. And to Alisa and Josh, thank you so much for opening your beautiful home to us this evening. It is lovely to meet you and your young family, and makes me wish I had brought Salma and Hashem, my two youngest as well…but why shatter the peace of the English countryside?!
Let me start by asking you to raise your hand if you’re a mother.

“Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person” … Article three, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Over the past 41 years, the people of Gaza have been living under occupation. Over the past 18 months, they have been living under siege. And for the past 10 days, the people of Gaza have been subject to a cruel and continuous military attack.

"Over 1000 participants today. Representation of all continents. Membership of more than 1500 companies. 1750 GRI reports expected to be written this year. Endorsements from the G8 and the UN. And 80 per cent of Business Week’s top 15 global brands, all using GRI guidelines.
Hmm. It seems predictions that sustainability reporting would only ever be a niche activity have proven… unsustainable! Ernst, you must be doing something right!

Leila’s Lesson
It’s great to be celebrating Earth Day with so many inspiring leaders…so many ambassadors of hope and goodwill in places around the globe.
Thank you, Jane, for inviting me here. I’ve wanted to come for some time.
I’m told this gathering has sometimes been called the “Conference on Borderless Giving.”

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Dead Sea) For a country going through the process of comprehensive development, entrepreneurship for Jordan is crucial, as it not only requires changing mindsets but also investing in ideas and creating opportunities.
That was the chord struck by around 80 students taking part in the Youth Session Program “Inspire Them While They Are Young” where participants seated in a casual setting got a surprise participant when Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah dropped in to take part in the interactive dialogue.
