Thank you, Aase
Two years ago, I met a girl named Maha, from a village in Yemen.
In her world, few girls ever receive an education. But Maha dreamed of going to school… learning to read and write… making friends… maybe even going to university.
Her father loved her, but he was a traditional man. Girls didn’t go to school. If she went, the village wouldn’t understand; they would condemn and ostracize his family. Even her brothers were against it. Only her mother fought for her daughter, even though she had never gone to school herself.

I’m here to ask you to join one team and help us reach one goal.
One goal: To change the lives of children through education for all.
And I’m honored to be introduced by a champion who won the Golden Shoe.
Now that’s one, I don’t have! But, seriously, I think it’s great to see stilettos and cleats lining up together… in support of a golden chance to make a lasting difference for the world.

Thank you, Ann. It’s an honor to be here with you all this morning; thank you for that warm welcome. What a wave of positive energy to start the day…wow!
So, before I visit a new place, before I meet new people, I always do my homework…and everything I read about you guys was pretty amazing:
“…an environment of exceptional trust and respect… highly committed staff…a four-year college enrollment twice the national average for women of color… high expectations…highly supportive… students consider school their second home…”

Thank you very much, Rob; it feels good to be introduced by “the most influential man in telecoms” today. Like you, I’m thrilled about the promise of the premier league partnership of GSMA and 1GOAL, and I’ll be talking about that too, a bit later in my remarks.
But first, let me say how honored I am to be part of such a dynamic conference: as dynamic in scale and expertise… as it is in vision and innovation.
Enabling over 3 billion connections, and growing at a rate of over 1000 subscribers per minute, it’s no wonder that GSMA is the mobile industry’s leading institution.

"Danke schön, Professor Freimuth, for those kind words…and to all your guests and colleagues here today for their generous warmth and hospitality. I am very pleased to be with you all to open this wonderful clinic.
And I am very pleased to be visiting Cologne for the first time too. The natural beauty of the Rhine, the magnificent spires of the Kölner Dom, and the unusual architecture of Museum Ludvig, attest to a proud and diverse history…making Cologne, as one travel writer said, a “city so good, you’ll want to dab it behind your ears!”

You can't write your own name or that of your child.
You started work, not at 16, 18 or 21, but at 5.
You earn so little – even after years of toil – that your own daughter, too, must work…
And so the cycle begins.
Millions of adults live this reality – 774 million… all illiterate … most of them women.
Millions of children will join them – 75 million … none with a day's schooling … most of them girls.

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department – Amman) As a strong supporter of advancing educational opportunities for students and teachers in Jordan, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah did not miss out on the opportunity to showcase Jordanian schools and students to the visiting Board Members of the United Nations Foundation.

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department – Northern Badia) While the majority of the Kingdom’s schools opened their doors to joyous students earlier this month, many of those doors opened to creeks and crackles of rusted steel and poor infrastructure. As Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah passed through another of these schools, in Sabha, she highlighted the need to focus on providing a better environment for the students.
