Queen Rania Visits Al Hussein Social Institute and Launches the Foster Care Guidebook
(Office of Her Majesty- Press Department- Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania joined the launch of the ‘The Foster Care Guidebook' held by The National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA), in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development and Save the Children.
Held at the Al Hussein Social Institution in Al-Shrafiyeh, the meeting included Minister of Social Development, H.E Reem Abu Hassan; Director of Al Hussein Association for Orphans, Mirna Abu Ghazaleh; and Mr. Mohammad Miqdadi, Acting Secretary General of NCFA. Her Majesty discussed with members of the committee in charge of developing the Foster Care Guidebook the importance of incorporating best practices and methods extracted from real-life stories and experiences of real foster families and children.
Mr. Mohammad Miqdadi stated that The Foster Care Guidebook will become a reference for families and institutions working with foster children.
Her Majesty also met with several foster families who shared with her the important role the guidebook plays in raising awareness and informing foster families of the rights of foster children and the available local resources and institutions that support foster care.
Several foster parents talked about an NCFA-organized training course that they took part in. They clarified that the training course included instructional information for foster families based on scientific-based research that takes into account the different social and psychological dimensions affecting foster children.
Accompanied by Mirna Abu Ghazaleh, Director of Al Hussein Social Institute, Her Majesty also toured the facility and listened firsthand to overview of the services provided to the children.
Al Hussein Social Institute was founded in 1953 and is considered one of the largest integrated social welfare institutions in Jordan with a capacity for housing 150 orphans and offers services that include accommodation, food, clothing, health, and education services.
