Queen Rania Inaugurates Hussein Madi in Amman Art Exhibition
(Office of Her Majesty – Press Department – Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah inaugurated, today, the ‘Hussein Madi in Amman’ Exhibition at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts. The exhibition showcases 115 artworks donated to the permanent collection of the Gallery by the world-renowned artist.
In attendance were also Her Royal Highness Princess Wijdan bint Fawaz, President of the Royal Society of Fine Arts, Her Royal Highness Princess Ghida Talal, Her Royal Highness Princess Rajwa bint Ali, Lebanese artist Hussein Madi, and Dr. Khalid Khreis, Director General of the Gallery and the Board of Trustees.
Accompanied by Princess Wijdan, Her Majesty toured the art exhibition and listened to a brief about the art pieces by the artist himself. The collection includes paintings, graphic printing and sculptures.
At the event, Princess Wijdan expressed her gratitude towards Madi and said, “I have no words that can describe our gratitude... I am confident that Madi will continue to enrich contemporary Arab art with his work, and that his generosity will set an example for other artists.’
Hussein Madi was born in Lebanon in 1938. After finishing his studies in Lebanon, he moved to Italy, where he lived for twenty-two years. While there, he mastered the crafts of painting, sculpture and printmaking, as well as the techniques of fresco, mosaic and graphic art at the Accademia di Belle Arti and the Accademia San Giacomo in Rome. Since 1965, Madi has held over sixty solo exhibitions and has participated in a large number of international exhibitions and biennales around the world.
The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts will be home to Madi’s exhibition form May 18 through July 30, 2015.
The Royal Society of Fine Arts (RSFA):
Is a cultural, non-governmental, non-profit organization, founded in Amman, Jordan, in 1979. Its goal is to encourage cultural diversity, disseminate artistic knowledge and promote art from the Islamic and developing worlds. While the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts was officially inaugurated by His Majesty the late King Hussein and Her Majesty Queen Noor Al Hussein in February of 1980.
