Queen Rania Visits the Empowerment for University Women Association

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department- Amman) – Her Majesty Queen Rania al Abdullah made a visit today to the Empowerment for University Women Association where she met with its board members, general assembly and beneficiaries.

Her Majesty was briefed by Nuha Ma’aytah, Chairwoman of the association, on its mandate, activities and achievements, including their latest initiative; erasing illiteracy and capacity building project which is mainly funded by UNESCO. This project is currently being implemented in Al Mafraq Governorate in cooperation with several local associations.

Her Majesty commended the association’s work and spirit of volunteerism, stressing the importance of an active civil society in aiding those who are less fortunate and providing opportunities for women across the Kingdom.

The Queen toured the association’s facilities and training rooms including the sewing rooms, where she was briefed on the different marketing schemes that the association implements to promote and sell the work produced by the women.

Her Majesty also stopped by the printing press and computer lab, where different training courses are offered for women to equip them with skills that qualify them for the job market. The printing press is one of the association’s income generating projects through printing out and designing business cards, brochures and invitation cards.

The non-for profit association was established in 2004 with the aim of contributing towards the improvement and development of women’s status socially, economically and culturally. There are currently fifty members of the association.
