Queen Rania's Birthday

September 01, 2005

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Amman) Today marks the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah.Throughout the last year, Her Majesty has continued working on issues of national concern, including core matters such as the empowerment of women, the welfare of children and awareness raising of issues pertaining to the family and society on the local, regional and international levels.

On the national front, Queen Rania laid the cornerstone of the Children’s Museum at the Al Hussein Park and chaired the first board meeting of the Children’s Museum Society. The museum is a project initiated by Her Majesty stemming from her commitment to children’s education, well-being, and development. Complementing the national curriculum by providing a supplementary learning experience that builds on classroom learning, the museum enhances children’s appreciation of their national identity by exposing them to the diverse elements of the Jordanian environment; flora and fauna, geology, archaeology, history and culture.

As another national milestone, Queen Rania also chaired the third meeting of the Advisory Board of the Arab Women’s Media Campaign, held during the World Economic Forum at the Dead Sea, where Arab media leaders agreed to set up the Arab Media Network for Human Development, so as to effectively employ media to address and promote Arab women’s issues, develop new and creative tools and measures to enhance the representation of Arab women in the media and strengthen partnerships between media networks, outlets and civil society at large.

For her work internationally, and in recognition for her social contributions, Queen Rania was awarded three awards: the Austrian ‘My Way’ Award, the Sesame Workshop Award and the Academy of Achievement Golden Plate Award.
