Queen Rania Meets with Leadership Program Youth
(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department- Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah met today with several groups of participants in the Youth Leadership Program at The Queen Rania Family and Child Center (QRFCC). The Youth Leadership Program “Towards an Empowered Generation” is one of several programs offered by the center, which is the brain child of the Jordan River Foundation (JRF), founded by Her Majesty.
Her Majesty was briefed on the Leadership Program and youth leaders shared with Her Majesty their experiences in volunteering at schools as part of the program’s volunteer summer camp for two consecutive years.
Her Majesty expressed her pride in the youth and their accomplishments, and commended their hard work and selfless community serving spirit. She praised their work that is clearly reaping visible and tangible results for them and their societies, applauding the youth’s team spirit, sense of community and leadership.
The participants expressed to Her Majesty their joy and excitement at being part of the program. “Our aim is to serve and do our duty towards the betterment of our country” said one of them, adding that this is a sentiment they all share.
Queen Rania also met with a group of seventeen youth responsible for organizing the upcoming volunteer summer camp, who briefed Her Majesty on their plans for this year’s camp and its intended outcomes.
Her Majesty also met with ten leaders from previous years who explained the leaders’ role in the child safety awareness program through theater, as today marks the National Day for Child Safety in the Kingdom.
The program aims to train youth on topics related to violence against women and children as well as theatrical skills. Participants developed a play on these topics and performed it to around a thousand community members.
At the adjacent Al Nadwa Park’s football field, Queen Rania was briefed on the park project that entailed renovating the field and turning it into a safe environment for children.
The Youth Leadership Program “Towards an Empowered Generation” is one of Queen Rania for Family and Child Center’s programs which started in 2009 and is held on an annual basis. Each year 25 youth from different public and private universities participate in five days of training that focuses on an array of topics such as team building and setting goals, self awareness, team work, communication Skills, problem solving, motivation and decision making, self development, time management, stress management, leadership qualities and citizenship.
Activities that youth leaders participate in upon completion of the Leadership Program include: Youth Summer Volunteer Program (YSVP), Youth Leaders Preventing Violence Program - supported by UNHCR, Raising Awareness on Violence against Women and Children through Theatrical Play, Youth Empowerment Program - supported by International Medical Corps (IMC) and Volunteering throughout the year at the Queen Rania Family and Child Center and Dar Al Aman.
Accompanied by JRF Director, Mrs. Valantina Qassisieh; Director of Queen Rania Family and Child Center, Mrs. Samia Bishara, and several members of the JRF’s Board, Her Majesty also stopped by a part of a work shop for women in the center’s arts room.
