(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department – Amman) As food prices around the world continue to soar, even the smallest efforts can make a difference, and providing a helping hand to strangers needs to be encouraged. After hearing about the local food drive organized by Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah made a stop to one of the collection drives, Wednesday, to include her own donation of canned food items.

As she discussed the initiative with organizers at GAM, Queen Rania stressed the importance of community service and social responsibility. “We all need to play a role in this drive,” said the Queen.

In July, the municipality teamed up with local radio station Fann FM to set up collection boxes around some of the biggest supermarkets in Amman including Al Farid, C-Town mall branches, Cozmo, Plaza Superstores, Carrefour, and Yasser mall. The one year initiative, “Kuluna Ahel” (We are one family), will provide food packages to Jordanian families.

Each package includes one month’s supply of non perishable food staples such as dried milk, rice and sugar for one family.
