Queen Rania Urges RHAS to Apply Its Programs to Schools

March 02, 2009

(Jordan Times, Press Department - Amman) Her Majesty Queen Rania on Monday urged the Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS) to apply its various health-education programmes in schools across the Kingdom.

The Queen, who chairs the RHAS board of trustees, made the remarks at the board’s annual meeting yesterday.

Expressing her appreciation for the efforts exerted by the RHAS staff, administration and partners, the Queen explained that by targeting schools, the RHAS will be able to reach a broader segment of society.

The Kingdom has witnessed rapid developments in the last decade that have led to major changes in the lifestyles of many Jordanians and several are adopting unhealthy habits without paying attention to their consequences, according to the RHAS website.

With the Queen’s support, the RHAS currently focuses on preventive health issues leading to awareness raising and behavioural change.

During yesterday’s meeting, RHAS Deputy Chairman Rami Farraj said Her Majesty’s follow-up of the society’s programmes has given it a strong push, providing it with the motivation to work harder.

Meanwhile, RHAS Director General Inaam Breishi listed the society’s projects to promote health awareness and public safety, which include KAFA, healthy schools, the King Abdullah II Award for Physical Fitness, National Micro-Clinics, the National Health Campaign, Think First and e-Doctors for Schools.

She said the society will continue this year with its efforts to raise awareness on health issues through its programmes and partnerships with the private and public sectors and civil society institutions.

Board members, who reviewed the RHAS plans and budget for 2009, also presented their proposals and views on the society’s work and means to improve and boost its activities in cooperation with civil society institutions.
