1GOAL

In August 2009, 1GOAL kicked off at Wembley Stadium with famous footballers...

In September, President Clinton backed 1GOAL...

In October, world leaders like Gordon Brown, Hillary Clinton, and Prime Minister Zapatero signed up...

In December, VEVO, the world’s largest online music site joined the 1GOAL team.

Footballers, politicians, music stars, fans of all stripes have signed their names to 1GOAL, and now, I hope, you can sign up, too.

Our goal?  1GOAL: to get 75 million children into school.

Today, in too many places, around the world, too many children are sentenced to a life of poverty and shackled to chains of hopelessness, through no fault of their own. Little boys washing cars for small change or shining shoes in exchange for food…little girls in search of water, hours from their home, or babysitting their brothers and sisters while their parents eke out meager livings…little people whose promise and potential waste away every day they’re not in school.

A lost generation.

And the longer we let this continue, the longer the legacy of inter-generational despair continues: maternal deaths spiral, child mortality grows, poverty cripples, unemployment rises, and infectious diseases spread needlessly.

But if we can get children off the sidelines, and into school, we can reverse these trends, and turn around the fortunes of families, communities and countries. Investing in a child’s education can deliver society-wide development returns. For example, just one addition year of quality schooling increases wages by around 10%, and can raise a country’s average GDP growth by up to 1%. Seven million cases of HIV/AIDS could be prevented in the next decade if every child received an education.

If we target girls, the benefits ripple through society faster and further. When girls go to school, they gain confidence and self-respect; they get married and give birth later in life; they have families that are smarter and healthier; and they build communities that are safer and more prosperous.

So, if the economics add up, and the fieldwork provides irrefutable facts, then there should be no excuse for failure.

Except lack of willpower.

And that’s, sadly, what many global leaders are guilty of. In 2000, at the World Education Forum, and the Millennium Summit, they pledged to get all primary age children into school. And there has been some progress. Almost 50 million more children are now in primary school. But 72 million still aren’t.

1GOAL is a new campaign to raise support for Education for All, and hold world leaders accountable to their promises. 1GOAL brings together the experience and expertise of the Global Campaign for Education with the passion and power of football through FIFA.

Between now and the end of the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, we want every football fan in the world to sign up to 1GOAL. We just want your name -a signature that demands fair play and justice for children anywhere, from world leaders everywhere.

If we work together, we can find that lost generation of children, and we can leave a legacy of education in Africa and beyond.

Please add your name to a team of champions: www.join1goal.org

Thank you.

Dear Queen Rania;
I`m a second year student; today at my class I presented a presentation about how your projects are promoting education all over the world. And there has been some progress. Almost 50 million more children are now in primary school;they ask me some questions at the class that I couldn`t answer and I want to ask you please : 1) how many children in Jordan are from the 50 milion children? Also as queen Rania what did you do exactly to have such a phenomenal progress like this? Thank you so much; I think you are an exquisite and extraordinary person and queen. Best; Raheeq (my e-mail: raheeqb@gmail.com)

Hi Raheeq,
Thank you for your message to Her Majesty.

Since 1999, an additional 52 million children enrolled in primary school. Of those 52 million, 111,000 are from Jordan.

Queen Rania believes strongly that enhancing education is vital for bridging gaps, giving people hope, improving lives and ensuring stability throughout the world. To this effect, over the past few years, Queen Rania has launched, championed and given patronage to a number of initiatives in education and learning (both locally and globally) that would help achieve the six EFA goals.

I will send you more information to your email.

hello,
I'm a palestinian student,so I know a lot of children who want to go to school, but they can't; because of occupation. I want to thank you not only as a queen or as being the co-founder and co-chair of 1GOAL camaign, but as a human, specially, as a woman.Because of your dignified endeavors, your social sense. As woman's perspective, you are a good arab women model, you show the world that arab women are confident, educated, beautiful. Maybe it's late to congratulate you on winning FIFA President Award 2009, but i do want to congratulate you. Even though i wished that you talked in arabic, your native language, as all the winners in FIFA awards do.
please, keep all these good things up and continue your hardworking on education, girls, poverty.
I want to tell you that I signed up in !GOAL campaign. And I'll let my family and friends sign up, too.
Salute to you, my queen.

Majesty, I am content to participate to this campaign signing in the site of 1 goal. Thanks truly of to have given this possibility of a concrete gesture for a better world!!!
Now I am disclosing this event with all my means or of communication, or to the friends thus to make to participate more possible persons.
I am content of this her idea!!!
Reading to this article I thought how much I am small the world. I when I was small did not want I make me to study simply because I have had a tumor in the lymph that he has ruined to me and enriched life years! And when after a long fight from my mother, I was taken to school, they made to feel a “various one me” from the others, because second they, “I badly had the guilt to be.” A lot has made that every time that I always say that my infancy is ended to 5 years. Even if today fortunately I enjoy optimal health!!!
They come neglected for the poverty! But when we will end to be one against the other without more to judge to us? Without it makes us of the evil, but trying to grow with in ways harmonic? Which guilt has a person if it is born rich or poor or heals or sick?
With the aid of persons of good will the walls can only be broken off. This “gesture” of 1 goal for me is a gesture counter-current it left a sign in the history, however goes is a brilliant idea!!!
I have read some days before in the http://www.Nakhweh.com site and me it is a lot interested because it could be a way for giving a hand. But I have found a small difficulty! That when has gone to register to me they came only indicated the Jordan and Libano nations to this point I have preferred to leave to lose even if i would like to give a hand to me in active way. Also the plan “Entirety for the peace” me is very very pleasure, because not there is nothing beautifulr that to see persons of good will that will work in order to construct a better world. All say to me that it is a my utopy, but creed that if in the world there would be persons of good will that they believe in the force of the peace, the dialogue, the communication and above all in the divine message then all it would change. To use own forces, minds, own abilities and also the means that can be used in order to obtain the common good, then the peace would not be more an utopy! But a feasible idea and would not be more an abstruse idea, but a feasible idea. Also for this they are important plans like those, but also like all the other plans that are listed there!!!
What God the aids protect and it always! I always pray for she and her activities in order to develop her country and those which she pleades a cause for the good of the humanity!!!
The heart salute!!!
