(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Amman) On the occasion of honoring women pioneers in the field of micro-finance, Queen Rania Al-Abdullah, highlighted the importance of cross-cultural dialogue and building bridges of understanding between cultures.

She emphasized the important role that women play in finding solutions in light of the urgent challenges facing the citizens of the world and said “that by heeding the voice of the world’s women” we play “an important role in finding solutions.”

That message was delivered by Queen Rania at the Vital Voices Global Leadership event at the Kennedy Center, Washington D.C., to an audience of about 500 people, including many diplomats and policymakers.

In her message, Queen Rania underlined the value of investing in women and empowering them on the political and economic levels which can be a primary catalyst for opening markets, ensuring democracy and creating moderate and stable societies.

Queen Rania, an advocate of cross-cultural dialogue and understanding, noted that micro-credit and empowerment programs for women are no longer areas of “soft” development but rather a corner stone for building societies, saying that “investing in women in not only right, it is smart policy.

It is essential to building the kind of peaceful and prosperous world that we want to create and pass along to our children.” Vital Voices is a global partnership to support women’s progress in building democracies, strong economies and peace.

Their work focuses on three critical areas: expanding women’s roles in politics and civil society; increasing successful women’s entrepreneurship; and fighting trafficking in women and girls and other human rights abuses.
