Queen Rania and Prime Minister Ensour join world leaders at Mandela's memorial service in South Africa

(Office of Her Majesty- Press Department- Johannesburg) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah and Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour attended today in Johannesburg the memorial service of South Africa's former President Nelson Mandela, who devoted his life to bringing freedom to his country and fighting for peace and justice across the world.

Queen Rania and Ensour joined over 90 world leaders including US President Barack Obama and former US Presidents Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. South Africa's current President Zuma as well as other heads of states and leaders from across Europe, Asia and the Arab world also attended the service.

His Majesty King Abdullah II delegated yesterday Queen Rania and Ensour to attend the memorial.

Her Majesty last met with Nobel Peace Prize winner Mandela and his wife Graça Machel during a working visit she made to South Africa in 2009. Her Majesty checked on the different projects carried out by the Nelson Mandela Childrens’ Fund (NMCF).

Queen Rania also joined Mandela in several initiatives including the Big Read for Global Action Week and UNICEF's Global Leadership Initiative.
