Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah meets with Youth Leadership Program participants

(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department- Amman) – Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah met today, with 32 participants of the Youth Leadership Program in Amman. Held annually, The Youth Leadership Program “Towards an Empowered Generation” is one of the Queen Rania for Family and Child Center’s programs which started in 2009.

During the meeting Her Majesty was briefed about the program and the benefits youth gain from it. Meanwhile, youth participants talked about the application process they had to go through and the activities they have participated in to date, such as the Aqaba boot camp.

Her Majesty commended the youths’ positive attitude and giving spirit, adding that all the challenges they faced during the training program can only develop and hone their leadership skills and abilities.

Each year, youth from different public and private universities participate in a 5 day training course. This year 32 participants took part in the training which took place in January 2012 in Aqaba.

This year’s training included skills ranging from team building, setting goals, communication skills and self development to youth participation through project planning.

As soon as the “Youth Leadership Program” ends, the youth leaders start preparing for the Youth Summer Volunteer Program (YSVP), an annual volunteer program that engages an average of 250 volunteers from different public and private schools in Amman. The summer camp includes activities with children at the Queen Rania Family and Child Center and Dar Al Aman in addition to maintenance activities at different facilities located in Jabal Al Naser such as schools and parks.

Youth leaders also participate in the Youth Leaders Preventing Violence Program in cooperation with UNHCR, Raising Awareness on Violence against Women and Children through Theatrical Play in coordination with Vital Voices, and the Youth Empowerment Program - supported by International Medical Corps (IMC).
