Queen Rania Meets Youth Taking Part in the ‘for Empowered Generations’ Project

July 16, 2007

(Jordan Times - Amman) A total of 190 young people from Amman volunteered to take part in a project aimed at fostering youth participation in community work.

Entitled “For Empowered Generations”, the project, carried out with the support of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM), seeks to develop youth potential and awareness, in addition to increasing their contributions to community service.

Over a period of one month, the volunteers will carry out maintenance work on three public schools and gardens, in addition to voluntary work within the Queen Rania Family and Child Centre (QRFCC), the organiser of the project.

The voluntary work will include painting, cleaning and carrying out repairs, in addition to cleaning, mowing lawns and laying yards.

The project was launched by Her Majesty Queen Rania, the chairperson of the Jordan River Foundation (JRF), which the QRFCC functions.

During the launch, the Queen praised the enthusiasm of the volunteers and their readiness to commit themselves to such community-based projects.

The young volunteers came from several private, public and vocational institutions, including the Orthodox School, Nasser Vocational School and the University of Jordan.

During the launch ceremony, the Queen, accompanied by Amman Mayor Omar Maani, spoke with the groups’ representatives about the nature of their respective tasks.

Samia Bshara, the manager of the Queen Rania Family and Child Centre, said the project seeks to bring about positive changes and encourage Jordanians to shoulder social responsibility.

Also yesterday, the JRF signed a memorandum of understanding with GAM to boost cooperation between the two bodies and to outline work mechanisms, particularly the means of funding voluntary projects.

The memorandum was signed by Amman Mayor Omar Maani and JRF acting Director General Valentina Qussisiya.

The JRF, established in 1995, is a nonprofit nongovernmental organisation which works to empower society, especially women and children, to improve the quality of life for all Jordanians.
