(Office of Her Majesty, Press Department - Washington, D.C.) Her Majesty Queen Rania met with US First Lady Laura Bush at the White House to discuss areas of common interest and exchange views on developments--on the humanitarian level--related to the September 11 attacks on the United States.

Her Majesty, on a working visit to the United States, was accompanying His Majesty King Abdullah. Following her meeting at the White House, Queen Rania visited the headquarters of the American Red Cross in Washington, DC, where she met with its President and CEO, Dr. Bernadine Healy.

Her Majesty was briefed on the services provided by the American Red Cross during rescue and relief situations. Queen Rania toured the various departments at the Red Cross Center and met with a group of school children who assisted in rescue efforts following the World Trade Center and Pentagon incidents.

Her Majesty thanked the children for their courageous efforts and highlighted the importance of the humanitarian role they played in helping to alleviate the pain and suffering of families affected by the attacks.

Her Majesty also visited the Family Services Center, set up by the Red Cross in the wake of the attacks, which is helping victims and families affected by the attack against the Pentagon.

The Center provides food, shelter and medicine to families in need as well as medical, psychological and legal advice. It also contains a floor dedicated to children of missing parents and families.

Dr. Haley highlighted the importance of Queen Rania’s visit to the Red Cross Center and bilateral relations between the Red Cross and the Jordanian Red Crescent Society.
