Queen Rania Treats SOS Village- Aqaba Children to a Fun Filled Day in Amman

August 25, 2013

(Office of Her Majesty- Press Department- Amman) It was a fun and eventful day for the children of SOS Village- Aqaba who were invited by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah to spend a day in Amman and visit the Zaha Cultural Center, the Children’s Museum, and the Royal Automobile Museum.

At the Zaha Cultural Center, Queen Rania joined the children as they participated in a variety of fun activities that included sports games, drawing, molding play-dough as well as other interactive activities that helped them learn about preserving natural resources and the environment.

The children's next stop was at the Royal Automobile Museum (RAM) where they checked the different cars on display. Along with SOS Village- Aqaba Deputy Manager, Ms. Feryal Nabasand, and a number of SOS Village mothers and aunts, the children watched a video about the life of His Majesty the Late King Hussein.

The children then headed to the Children’s Museum where they had the chance to mix learning with fun. They enjoyed a number of interactive exhibits each designed to address a different topic; such as arts, science, chemistry, the environment, and astronomy.

The children ended their day at the Amman-based SOS Village and played with other children living there.

The SOS village was first established in Jordan in 1987 to take care of orphaned and abandoned children under the age of 14. After they graduate from the village, they get transferred to the SOS Youth Houses where they are guided to become capable adults ready to start their lives as independent individuals. They continue their education in public and private schools and are encouraged by the village to continue their higher education with the help of Al Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans, which was established by Her Majesty Queen Rania in 2006.

The villages accept orphaned children with ages ranging between toddlers and 14 year olds. Each SOS family consists of 8 to 9 children and their SOS mother.

Currently, the SOS cares for 219 Jordanian orphaned and abandoned children in three villages and eight youth houses in Amman, Aqaba and Irbid.
